Discovery Bay: Attractions
ATTRACTIONS
27 - From the Earth to the Moon (FP)
E-Ticket
Must be 48 in.
Take an out-of-this world voyage through space on this ride inspired by Jules Verne.
QUEUE:
Guests travel through iron-wrought gates and walk on a bridge to the other side of the building. There, they walk into a large warehouse, where the Baltimore Gun Club has set up an industrial facility. They pass blueprints for their newest contraption, the Columbiad Cannon, a cannon so powerful that it can shoot people into outer space.
Soon, they enter into an area where guests see late Nineteenth Century American flags hanging from the ceiling, and a two-track loading area. There, they board a “rocket” on one of both sides. Guests then pull their lap bars down and get ready.
RIDE EXPERIENCE:
The vehicles move out of the building and enter the Columbiad Cannon. They wait for a moment before the cannon fires, launching them up the mountain. Zooming stars at the top give guests the impression that they are flying into space.
When they reach the top, they see the moon, but it doesn’t last for long. They drop down and move through the stars, going through an asteroid field. They go through a corkscrew loop as this happens. Then, they pass by planets and stars, and even see a comet move past. They go through a barrel roll and then move by a galaxy. Then, all of a sudden, a black hole is seen. Luckily, after a barrel roll, they exit through a wormhole, which teleports them back to the station. This is where they get off and exit the building.
POST-RIDE:
Guests walk through passages and end up in the Baltimore Gun Club Emporium. There, they see photos taken of them on the ride (taken during the launch) and merchandise themed to the attraction.
28 - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (FP)
E-Ticket
Any Height
Join Captain Nemo on an underwater voyage to find the Lost City of Atlantis.
QUEUE:
Located to the right of From the Earth to the Moon is a large exhibition hall with the words of the ride on it. Here, guests walk inside and see advanced diving equipment. They also see black-and-white photographs of Captain Nemo (who takes his looks from James Mason, the actor who played him in the 1954 film.) Soon, they enter an underwater-moving “elevator” (even though it doesn’t really move down) that takes them below.
Here, they go through the area for advanced diving crew members. They pass by several submarines, diving equipment, and more before entering the loading area. They board two-person submarines where lights are attached and then sit down.
RIDE EXPERIENCE:
Like the Tokyo Disneysea version of the ride, it doesn’t go under water. Instead, it is all an illusion. Once the subs go underwater, they move over the ocean floor. Here, they see marine life, shipwrecks, coral, and seaweed.
Captain Nemo brings the submarines into a trench, where he believes that a clue to Atlantis is hidden. Unfortunately, they don’t see anything. Disappointed by this, Nemo tries to make the subs levitate out of the water, but then a giant squid knocks them off course.
Damaged from the encounter, the machine moves through darkness before being restored unexpectedly. There, they see the green-skinned Atlanteans, who had restored power with their touch. The subs then move through Atlantis, taking in the sights. Once they are done, the Atlanteans send the subs back towards the surface. They pass by the Nautilus before returning to the loading area. Here, they get off and take a passage back to Discovery Bay.
29 - Around the World with Mickey and Friends
C-Ticket
Any Height
In this meet and greet experience, guests can travel the world, meeting Mickey and his friends as they go. They can see Minnie in Paris, Daisy in London, and Pluto in Hawaii or Donald in Mexico, Goofy in India, and Mickey in Japan.
30 - Orbitron
B-Ticket
Any Height
This spinning ride fashioned after Da Vinci’s planetary model is where guests can fly around. Basically a slower-paced Astro Orbiter.
31 - Soarin’ (FP)
E-Ticket
Must be 40 in.
On a flying machine, soar around the wonders of the world.
QUEUE:
Located on the border with the London area is a rocky area, where guests see a model of Da Vinci’s flying machine. This marks the entrance to the ride. They move through caves before eventually appearing in a metal-walled area bearing some of Da Vinci’s works. Soon, they appear in one of many halls, where screens are. There, a brief history of Da Vinci’s flying machine will be explained. Now that they’ve perfected Da Vinci’s machine, guests will be able to fly on them. The video gives a safety spiel before letting them inside, where they sit on their gliders, place their items down, and strap themselves in.
RIDE EXPERIENCE:
This version of the ride is a lot like Soarin’ Over the World, but with some extended time to look at world landmarks. This includes the Matterhorn, Monument Valley, the Sydney Harbor, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower, Neuschwanstein Castle, the Fiji Islands, and other places. For the finale, the gliders fly over the Dream Kingdom, where Tinker Bell appears before the gliders go back down.
